Sony's PlayStation hit by hack attack

A hacker group has claimed responsibility for attacking Sony's online PlayStation store, which is down on Monday.

Visitors to the site are greeted with a message that says "Page Not Found! It's not you. It's the internet's fault".

A group called "Lizard Squad" has taken credit for the outage, posting "PSN Login #offline #LizardSquad" as their Twitter status.

The outage is the most recent in a series of attacks on tech giant Sony.

FBI warns firms of destructive malware use by hackers

The US Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) has warned that cyber-hackers have used malicious software to launch destructive attacks in the US.

A five-page confidential warning was issued to US businesses on Monday, according to Reuters news agency.

The software would make it impossible to recover any lost data, the FBI said.

The warning follows a confirmation from the FBI that it is investigating last week's hack into Sony Pictures Entertainment's network.

Microsoft pips Sony to launch Xbox One in China

Microsoft has launched the Xbox One in China - becoming the first major console maker to enter what could be a massively lucrative market.

The first consoles were sold in Shanghai, priced at 4,299 yuan ($699, £430). Sony and Nintendo are yet to launch their respective products.

In January, the Chinese government lifted a 14-year ban on consoles, made because of worries over content.

However, many popular titles, such as Call of Duty, will still be banned.

Only 10 games were available to buy on the Xbox One's release - but Microsoft has said 70 titles are in the pipeline.

Beating its rivals to the market may give Microsoft a much-needed sales boost. Its console is currently being outsold by Sony's PlayStation 4 in all major markets.

Japan's Sony widens its full year loss forecast by $1.7bn

Japanese consumer electronics giant Sony has said it expects to record much bigger losses because of its struggling mobile business.

For the full year to March 2015, Sony now expects a full year loss of 230bn yen ($2.15bn; £1.3bn) compared with a previous estimate of 50bn yen.

The firm has cut forecasts for sales in its smartphone business as it faces competition from Apple and Samsung.
