Governor of Lagos State, Mr. Babatunde Fashola has said that individuals have a responsibility to manage risks for the betterment of their lives.
Fashola said that people should have the awareness of the existence of risk as a natural phenomenon to human existence.
He said, “We are often impervious to the risks we face on a daily basis. Risk here is the probability or the threat of damage, loss, injury or any other negative occurrence that is caused by external or internal vulnerabilities, the consequences of which may be avoided through preemptive action.

Rice hits N10,000 per 50kg bag at Lagos market

The price of a 50-kilogramme bag of imported rice hits N10,000 at the Mile 12 market in Lagos, for the week ending Friday, Nov. 21.
This is contained in the commodity index made available  by Novus Agro Nigeria Ltd in Lagos on Friday.
The index showed that one bag of the commodity sold for N9,167 last week, recording a N833 increase.
Meanwhile, there is reduction in the prices of the 60kg bag of white garri, 100kg bag of maize and 100kg bag of onion, against the preceding week prices.

Why Lagos deserves a special status in today’s Nigeria, by Shasore

Unless Lagos is accorded its well-deserved special status in Nigeria as has been advocated in recent times, it would be increasingly difficult for the state to continue to play its role as the economic and socio-cultural epicentre of the federation.

Court vacates order granting AMCON possession of MMA2


A Federal High Court in Lagos on Monday vacated an order granted the Asset Management Company of Nigeria (AMCON) to take over Terminal 2 of Murtala Mohammed International Airport.
Justice Ibrahim Buba, in a ruling, upturned the order on the grounds that it was an abuse of court process since the order was obtained in the face of previous pending cases and specific orders, reports News Agency of Nigeria (NAN).
Justice Okon Abang of the same court had on September 22 granted receivership of assets of Wale Babalakin, Bi-Courtney’s chairman, to Olisa Agbakoba.
Agbakoba was appointed receiver/manager over all the companies of Babalakin, including MMA2, Bi-Courtney Ltd, Chartered Investment Limited, Resort International Ltd and Roygate Properties Ltd.

Motorists groan as Apapa gridlock returns



Motorists on the Apapa-Oshodi Expressway and the Ijora-Apapa bridge in Lagos are once again back to what has been described as an endless drama of pain, as trailer and tanker drivers have taken over these routes in defiance of stakeholders’ directive that they should occupy only one lane on the expressway.
It has been a total gridlock on these roads in the last four days, making motorists spend three to four hours commuting to work and lose productive hours of their day in the gridlock that is impacting on their health.
Benson Ohgifo, a journalist whose office is in Apapa shared his experience with BusinessDay. He said it ordinarilly takes him just 30 minutes to reach Ijora Bridge from Lekki Phase One, but that yesterday the journey took three hours.
Investigations also revealed that transport fares on the Apapa route increased by more than 100 percent yesterday.
