Sterling
Bank Plc has said it was recently recognised as the ‘Innovative ICT Banking Product
of the Year,’ by organisers of the Nigerian telecom awards
A
statement from the bank explained that at the awards held in Lagos, its “Social
Lender” product was adjudged the most innovative banking solution.
The
bank said the feat was in recognition of its innovation and commitment to the
provision of quality banking services across all segments of the industry,
Social
lender, a Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative of the bank is a
peer-to-peer quick cash solution using twitter and facebook, two of the most
important social media platforms popular among young Nigerians.
Launched
by the bank over two months ago and with over 3000 requests and 2000 processed,
the solution developed by BINCOM ICT, a partner organisation on the project has
bridged the gap of immediate fund access for social media users.
Secretary
General of Nigerian Telecom Awards, Biodun Ajiboye explained how award
recipients were selected saying: “The race for the 2014 awards began in August
with performance monitoring of the various possible nominees.
About
750 professionals were contacted to handle the nominations after which
consultants were saddled with the arduous task of perusing the nominations
viz-a-viz the competence of the nominees.”
Speaking
on the award, the bank’s Executive Director (Strategy and Finance), Mr.
Abubakar Suleiman said it was reward for innovation stating the position of the
Bank on supporting creative solutions and ideas.
