The 10 most expensive EPL signings ever

Following Manchester United’s British record transfer for Real Madrid superstar Angel di Maria, the top ten most expensive Premier League signings list has a new frontrunner!
The trend of paying immense transfer fees will not seem to change anytime soon even though FIFA has already taken a measure, through the Financial Fair Play rule, to somehow regulate such indiscretions and level the playing field.
In any case, huge sums of money used to acquire players shows strength and more importantly, ambition, to clubs, which will definitely produce a direct positive effect to respective supporters, who in turn are one of the major sources of profits.
Signings from Manchester United, Chelsea, Manchester City, Arsenal and Liverpool feature in this epic list.
Mega deals for players such as Rio Ferdinand, Andriy Shevchenko and Wayne Rooney no longer even make the top 10, such is the enormity of the transfer deals in recent seasons.
Here are the ten most expensive signings of one of Europe’s biggest
domestic competitions – the English Premier League.
Di-Maria-Van-Gaal
1) Angel di Maria – (£59.7m, Real Madrid to Manchester United, 2014)
The Argentine sensation has finalised a move to Old Trafford, and becomes the most expensive signing ever bought by an English club.
2) Fernando Torres – (£50m, Liverpool to Chelsea, 2011)
After leaving the Reds midway of the campaign, Torres failed to find the back of the net donning the blue shirt in the premiership until the end of the season. Thereafter, he went on to tally 6, 8, and 5 goals, respectively, in three full terms.
The striker is on his way to Italy as Seria A side AC Milan is keen to lure the former Liverpool striker.
3) Mesut Ozil – (£42.5m, Real Madrid to Arsenal, 2013)
The World Cup winner has yet to prove his worth at the Emirates. Playing primarily as a playmaker, his 14 assists (10 in the Premier League) in all competitions during the 2013/14 campaign was definitely definitely a far cry from what was expected of him.

4) Sergio Aguero – (£38m, Atletico Madrid to Manchester City, 2011)
Kun, as he is fondly called, made an immediate impact upon arriving at the Etihad in 2011, tallying 30 goals and 12 assists in all competitions for the Eastlands outfit.
Regarded as one of the deadliest strikers of his time, injuries have hindered him from reaching his full potential.
5) Juan Mata – (£37.1m, Chelsea to Manchester United, 2014)
The Spanish international was on his way to having a decent long-term spell at Stamford Bridge after arriving in 2011, but Jose Mourinho thought otherwise and sold to a rival club, no less.
6. Andy Carroll (£36m, Newcastle to Liverpool, 2011)
The former Newcastle United standout had so much promise when he made a move to anfield in 2011, but apparently, he turned out to be one of the biggest flops, figuratively and literally – since he stands 6’4″, in Premier League history.
7) Alexis Sanchez- (£35m, Barcelona to Arsenal, 2014)
The Chile international striker Alexis Sanchez joined Arsenal from Barcelona on a long-term contract for a fee in the region of £35m. The 25-year-old scored 47 goals in 141 appearances for Barca and netted two goals in the World Cup in Brazil.
Although the player is yet to adapt to Arsenal style of play, but is a good buy for the Gunners.
8) Fernandinho – (£35m , Shakhtar Donetsk to Manchester City, 2013)
Manchester City recruited Brazil international Fernandinho from Shakhtar Donetsk. Financial details weren’t disclosed, but British media reported that Fernandinho will cost City around 35 million pounds ($54.7 million).
Blessed with great technique, movement and stamina, Fernandinho has impressed on the Champions League stage with Shakhtar in recent seasons.
9) Diego Costa, Robinho, Eden Hazard (Chelsea, Manchester City, Chelsea, £32m)
